Stat ó the week:

People in the United States are much less likely to accept Darwin’s idea that humans and apes share a common ancestor than adults in other Western nations, a number of surveys show.

A new study of those surveys suggests that the main reason for this lies in a unique confluence of religion, politics, and the public understanding of biological science in the United States.

Religious Retard:

“When you vote for the ANC, you are also choosing to go to heaven. When you don’t vote for the ANC you should know that you are choosing that man who carries a fork … who cooks people […] When you are carrying an ANC membership card, you are blessed. When you get up there, there are different cards used but when you have an ANC card, you will be let through to go to heaven […] When (Jesus) fetches us we will find (them) wearing black, green and gold, the holy ones belong to the ANC.”

Rational Hero:

Charles Robert Darwin FRS (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882)

Perhaps the most influential biologist and scientist of the last 200 years, Charles Robert Darwin and his theory of evolution by natural selection was and still is the unifying theory explaining the diversity of fauna and flora and the progression of life.

Catholic Church gives nod to ‘Confession’ Application for Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

This looks fantastic! Great to have all the back up stuff available. Well done you!

  2. Jacques Rousseau says :

Great stuff, guys (and absent woman in number #6) – congratulations on this effort, and long may it continue. Just wanted to also point out – as much as I endorse your general mockery of JZ (and I’ve have done plenty of it myself), calling him “not a Christian” is somewhat misleading – the man is a lay preacher, after all, and nothing in the NT explicitly forbids polygamy (and the OT of course endorses it).

  3. Southern Skeptic says :

    Hi Guys

    Another very fun discussion.

That attempted gospel video had me choking with laughter when I saw it the first time (I think it was linked from Pharngula) The chaplain general is mental!

Zuma’s utterances were disgraceful. I second Jacques’s comment, just because he is a polygamist doesn’t mean that he is exlcuded from the Jeebus stable. I had a good giggle at your discussion of it.

    The Rapture:
I can’t wait for this Sunday, I really want to see Camping’s reaction.

  4. Southern Skeptic says :

I think this was the episode where you guys mention that in 1000 years Jesus will have a lighning bolt shaped scar on his forehead…

I just found this book comparing the two: http://www.jesuspotterharrychrist.com

It is a serious work, and is quite thought provoking

  5. Basil says :

Love your comments Southern, and Jaques.

Agreed about JZ gents, I guess we should have specified which religion we were referring to. Which one was it now…? he he he.

I checked out that link. It’s awesome!

Will chat to the rest about adding it in for the next one.

    Keep em coming fellas. 🙂
